Indiana University The Indiana University Health Center at the main Bloomington campus serves 40,000 students, and until recently collected student health information on paper forms. Incoming freshmen were encouraged to complete a health history form prior to arriving on campus, and students visiting the health center were asked to show up early to fill out a registration form in the health center waiting room.
NoMoreClipboard created an IU branded personal health record solution that enables students to compile, manage and share their health information electronically with the student health center. Students are able to access the PHR through OneStart, a portal where they conduct university business. OneStart verifies student status and re-directs students to a login page where they are encouraged to create a separate username and password for the PHR (important for protecting private health information, as many students share their OneStart login information with their parents). Students can send their PHR information directly from NoMoreClipboard to the health center before an appointment. PHR information is used to populate university specific health history forms, which are uploaded into the health center EMR system’s document management module. Health center visits are documented in the EMR system, which then sends discrete electronic data back to NoMoreClipboard. Students can then selectively import data from the EMR into their PHR account. Students can also send their health information to other area healthcare providers or their hometown physicians right from the PHR. Students are now able to give their care providers a more complete picture of treatment received at home or at the university. "We’re enabling a process where providers feel they’re getting better information in the care process," says IU health center associate director Pete Grogg. Students can also access their PHR from an iPhone or other web-enabled mobile device – from the phone they can view a health summary, send their PHR to the health center or enter health measures such as calories, carbs or blood glucose readings. Graduating students will be able to take their portable PHR accounts with them – giving them a valuable tool for managing health and wellness on an ongoing basis. |
