NoMoreClipboard.com^TM is first PHR to receive CAQH CORE Certification

Fort Wayne, Ind. – NoMoreClipboard.com (NMC), an online Personal Health Record (PHR), is the first PHR to be certified by the CAQH Committee on Operating Rules for Information Exchange (CORE). Certification was made after NMC demonstrated that its PHR can successfully interoperate with participating health plans and healthcare providers.

CAQH, a nonprofit alliance of leading health plans, networks and trade associations, has developed standard business rules for information exchange that enable healthcare providers to electronically access consistent health insurance eligibility and benefit information in a matter of seconds. These rules build on the HIPAA eligibility (X12 270/271) transaction.

Under the current time-consuming procedure, healthcare providers call health plans to obtain and verify insurance information, or they use online interfaces provided by individual health plans. A survey by the California HealthCare Foundation’s (CHCF) “In Search of Affordability” project, and conducted by CAQH showed health plans could achieve significant labor savings by automating this procedure. The average labor costs per phone call are $1.38 vs. $0.00 for an automated transaction, the study concluded. The study included data from 40 organizations – 10 providers, 24 health plans, three clearinghouses and three associations – that process more than 1 billion eligibility transactions annually.

The NMC online PHR can include insurance information, along with medications, allergies, past illnesses and other important medical information. Prior to an appointment, the patient sends this record to the doctor’s office right from the application. As part of that transaction, NMC can generate an ANSI-270 message to the patient’s health plan. Within seconds, the health plan will issue a comprehensive ANSI-271 response that includes verification of health insurance eligibility and information on plan coverage, deductibles and co-pays.

This enables the practice to collect co-pays at the time of service and can reduce eligibility-related bad debt and claims denials.
